Project Title: National Grid

Location: Baldwin Road, in the Town of Ticonderoga, New York.

For Adirondack Park Agency: Comment Period Ends: October 17, 2013

Project Description: The project involves the installation of 16 new poles that will create a by-pass utility system so that the substation can be by-passed when work is required at the substation. The by-pass is necessary to maintain service to customers north of the substation when maintenance or repair work is necessary. International Paper is a utility customer north of the substation which depends upon no interruption in service to operate the paper mill. The existing transmission line is a 115 kv line. The height of the new utility structures will range from 29.5 feet to 61 feet above existing grade. Five poles will be greater than 40 feet in height above grade; two at 43 ± feet, one at 47.5 ± feet, one at 52 ± feet and one at 61 ± feet above grade. The existing poles within the substation are identified as height class 65 to 70 feet which are 57.5 to 61 feet above grade. There will be substantial vegetative cutting to accommodate the new poles and wires. A temporary access road will be constructed to undertake the project and once the by-pass system is completed the access road will be removed and the area seeded and mulched. National Grid proposes to retain as much understory shrub vegetation as possible during and after construction of the project.
