The applicant proposes to conduct hydraulic dredging in a 3,550' by 400 ' area of the existing Captree State Boat Channel west of the Robert Moses Bridge to a maximum depth of 14' below Mean Low Water to remove shoal areas and maintain safe navigation. The resultant 4,000 cy of material will be placed on the ocean beach at Robert Moses State Park fields 3 through 5 for beach nourishment in a continuation of the effort conducted during the spring of 2013.

Project Description:

The applicant proposes to install a temporary erosion control system in the former location of the dune eliminated by Hurricane Sandy. The system consists of a row of pentagon-shaped TrapBags that are sloped on one side, vertical on the other, open on top, and connected to each other side by side.The work includes excavation of a 20 foot wide and 1 foot deep area, set up of the bags in the landward portion of the excavated area, and filling the bags with the excavated sand.

The project is located on the Atlantic Ocean Fire Island Barrier Beach, community of Fire Island Summer Club/Corneille Estates, Town of Islip, Suffolk County.
