The Department has made a tentative decision to approve this application for a permit modification for an existing discharge of 4,000 gallons per day of treated laundromat wastewater to groundwater. The facility will utilize a Generation III Aquarelle treatment system. The facility, Center Moriches wash & fold, is located at 165B Main Street, Center Moriches. The proposed discharge is located within an area designated as a sole source aquifer. The following water purveyors have been identified as having service areas located within a 3 mile radius of the applicant's facility: Suffolk County Water Authority.

Project Description:

The applicant proposes to maintenance dredge the approach channel to an existing marina to 7 feet below mean low water and the marina boat basin to 4 feet below mean low water as needed over a ten year period. The 1,063 cu. yds. of dredged material generated is proposed to be used as beach nourishment on-site and to be placed in specified upland areas on-site. The proposed project is located in NYSDEC regulated tidal wetlands and in the adjacent area of a NYSDEC regulated freshwater wetland. The purpose of the project is to allow for the safe navigation of vessels into and out of the marina and to provide sand nourishment to an existing beach. The proposed project is located at the western end of West Shore Road in Bay Shore, Town of Islip in Suffolk County, SCTM# 500-470-02-02.
