Project Description:

The applicant proposes a 3.3 acre shale mine which includes a 0.4 acre haul road out of 58.1 acres owned by the applicant located west of Aldrich and south of Middle Roads in the Town of Sheridan. Excavation will be 1 foot vertical to 3 foot horizontal to a depth of approximately 25 feet resulting in a 1.9 acre pond approximately 12 feet deep based on the water level in an adjacent excavated pond. There will be no material processing on-site. Stripped topsoil will be added to an existing vineyard and used to reclaim the area surrounding the pond. The estimated life of mine is 1 to 3 years and the reclamation objective is a pond for irrigating crops surrounded by a 1 acre meadow.

State Historic Preservation Act (SHPA) Determination:

A cultural resources survey has been completed. Based on information provided in the survey report, the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (OPRHP) has determined that the proposed activity will have no impact on registered or eligible archaeological sites or historic structures. No further review in accordance with SHPA is required.

Coastal Management:

This project is not located in a Coastal Management area and is not subject to the Waterfront Revitalization and Coastal Resources Act.
