Project Description:

The project includes the modification of this regulated medical Solid Waste Management Facility to include several changes to the operation. Changes include operating out of the entire 8,470 square foot building instead of part of the building, increasing the number of lbs/day of non-RCRA Pharmaceuticals from 50 lbs to 1000 lbs per day, including storage of waste inside the building and in trailers in the parking area, allowing APHIS waste to be accepted as a new waste, and a change in storage from 6 tons to 24 tons for a total of 3 days of storage; two days inside and one day outside in refrigerated trucks.

Project Description:

The Department has made a tentative determination to issue a SPDES permit modification to Ethox International Inc. (formerly Ethox Corp) which formerly performed contract sterilization of medical equipment, but now performs laboratory research, development and testing of medical equipment, and pharmaceuticals. The permit modification is required to reflect the changes in the operation described above and the elimination of outfall 001 which previously discharged cooling water. The draft permit includes proposed monitoring for flow, total residual chlorine, total dissolved solids, total suspended solids, and chemical oxygen demand, and a limit for pH, for outfall 002 which discharges to groundwater. The draft permit is available for review and comment at NYSDEC Region 8.
