Project Description:

The Department has made a tentative determination to modify a permit for an existing discharge of 115,000 GPD of wastewater consisting of membrane second rinse and reverse osmosis treatment backwash, to groundwater, at the applicant's filter membrane manufacturing plant located at Pall Corporation, 225 Marcus Boulevard, Hauppauge, NY. New information recently submitted to the department indicates the pH minimum effluent limit was incorrect and the backwash wastewater will be discharged at outfalls 006 & 007, as well as the current location 002. Also, source control and treatment for the sufficient removal of the parameter tert-Butyl Alcohol is now required, as an interim and final effluent limit has been added for this parameter. The proposed discharge is located within an area designated as a sole source aquifer. The following water purveyor has been identified as having service areas located within a 3-mile radius of the applicant's facility: Suffolk County Water Authority, Greenlawn, and Dix Hills Water Districts.
