Project Description:

The applicant proposes construction of a 1.5 mile shared use recreational trail along the Little Ausable River in the Town of Peru, NY. A portion of the proposed trail would be constructed through New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) wetland P-5 and its 100' adjacent area. The trail would be 10 feet wide with 2 foot wide graded shoulders and includes a boardwalk over the river and a portion of the wetland. The proposed total impacts are approximately 7,293 square feet of the wetland and 23,752 square feet of its adjacent area. The project would begin at the southeast corner of Heyworth-Mason Park along State Route 22, ending on State Route 22 east of Town Park Road.

State Historic Preservation Act (SHPA) Determination:

A Structural-Archaeological Assessment Form has been completed. The proposed activity will not impact on registered, eligible or inventoried archaeological sites or historic structures.

Coastal Management:

This project is not located in a Coastal Management area and is not subject to the Waterfront Revitalization and Coastal Resources Act.

Opportunity for Public Comment:

Project Description:

The applicant proposes to restore a portion of Freshwater Wetland BO-1 as provided for under the Wetland Reserve Program. A series of pothole ponds of varying size not to exceed 4 feet in depth would be constructed with interconnecting channels in a wet meadow where reed canary grass is the predominant vegetative cover type. The project will comply with specifications and guidelines of the National Resource Conservation Service and will be conducted with assistance from Ducks Unlimited staff. The project is located in Fort Covington in Franklin County on Drum Street east of Chapman Road.
