Notice of Acceptance of Draft EIS and Public Hearing

Essex County - The Olympic Regional Development Authority, as lead agency, has accepted a Draft Environmental Impact Statement on the proposed 2013 Unit Management Plan Draft Amendment and Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement to the 2004 Unit Management Plan and Final Generic Environmental Impact Statement. Written comments on the Draft EIS will be accepted until May 24, 2013. The Unit Management Plan Amendment SEIS is available on CD from the contact person listed below and on line at: http://www.dec.ny.gov/lands/90459.html.

The preparation, review and approval of this Unit Management Plan Amendment requires compliance with the New York State Environmental Quality Review Act. The Olympic Regional Development Authority, in cooperation with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC) and the Adirondack Park Agency (APA), has completed this Draft Amendment and Supplemental EIS for the Whiteface Mountain Ski Center. The 2013 Whiteface Mountain Ski Center Amendment and Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (SEIS) is a result of a request by Essex County, New York for the installation of a Public Safety Radio Communications System at the Little Whiteface Ski Patrol Building. This involves the redevelopment of the existing Ski Patrol Building and the installation of antenna systems for a public safety radio communication system and improved Ski Patrol Services. This involves approximately 0.03 acres of ground cover being impacted. The management action has been analyzed for potential impacts to both natural and human resources.

The most recent update to the UMP/EIS was approved and accepted on July 4, 2004, with an Amendment and SEIS approved and accepted on October 4, 2006. This amendment is identified as the 2013 Unit Management Plan Amendment and SEIS to the 2004 Unit Management Plan and SEIS.
