Project Description:

Applicant proposes to restore tidal creek to its original, natural state by excavating 7,550 sf of existing earthen dike and depositing dredged material off site at an approved location. Project will also include temporary water diversion and construction of temporary cofferdams for dewatering project site. Subsequent to removal of earthen berm, applicant proposes installation of a 120' x 10' pedestrian bridge reinforced at each end with rip rap for scour protection. Project is located in Sunken Meadow State Park, Kings Park.

Project Description:

The Department has made a tentative determination to approve this application for the modification of a permit for an existing discharge of 12,000 gpd of treated car wash wastewater to groundwater from a treatment system at the facility listed above. Based on a review of the permit application, the permit should be modified to include sampling and effluent limits for 4-Methyl-2-Pentanone and a "No Net Addition" limit for Iron. The discharge is located within an area designated as a sole source aquifer. The following water purveyors have been identified as having service areas located within a 3-mile radius of the applicants facility: Suffolk County Water Authority.
