Permit(s) Applied for:

Article 17 Titles 7 & 8 Municipal SPDES - Surface Discharge

Project is Located:

Southold, Suffolk County

Project Description:

The Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) has prepared a draft permit and has made a tentative determination to issue a renewal to State Pollutant Discharge Elimination Systems (SPDES) permit (NY#0020079) for the surface discharge of treated wastewater to the Long Island Sound, a class SA water.

The Village of Greenport Wastewater Treatment Facility has a design capacity of 0.065 mgd. Treatment at the facility consists of pre-anoxic zone, an aerated suspended growth zone, combined with fixed film, and a post anoxic zone. Effluent from the biological nutrient removal process flows to two clarifiers where sludge is separated and returned to the plant influent. Clarified effluent is disinfected by an ultraviolet disinfection system. Wasted sludge is partially digested aerobically and thickened into two sludge holding tanks and transferred to a final aerated holding tank for disposal at Bergen Point.

DEC proposes to incorporate the following modifications to this permit: -Permit pages and conditions were updated to reflect current permit language, Department guidance and format. -Administrative information was updated. -The monitoring requirement has been removed because the first incremental limit for the LIS Biological Monitoring requirement has expired. -The Schedule of Compliance has been removed because conditions have been met. -The monitoring locations pages have been updated.
