ENB - Region 7 Notices 4/10/2013
Chenango County - The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC), as lead agency, has determined that the proposed East Afton Quarry will not have a significant adverse environmental impact. The action involves a new application submitted by Syracuse Sand and Gravel for mining bluestone from a new 30 acre life-of-mine facility previously permitted for exploratory mining. Approximately 12.2 acres of the parcel are currently affected by mining activity. Typical mining operations for bluestone including sawing, blasting and crushing is not expected to significantly impact natural resources. Reclamation of mined areas will include stable rock faces and re-vegetation of clover and rye grasses. The project is located at 439 East Afton Road in Bainbridge, New York.
