Project Description:

The applicant proposes stream bank stabilization/erosion control installations, and removal of blocking logs and debris along Frews Run. Bank stabilization and erosion control installations include tree revetments, stream flow control structures, grade stabilizers and vegetation planting. The project site is 13 separate sites ranging from 80 ft. to 300 ft., within a 1.3 mile stretch of Frews Run, which is located between Conewango Creek and Rte. 80. Three of the sites are also located in the regulated 100 ft. adjacent area of State Freshwater Wetland JA-17.

Project Description:

The Department has received an application for the installation of approximately 700 linear feet of steel sheet piling to replace existing wooden walls and the dredging of approximately 3,650 cubic yards of material to restore the functionality of the Gratwick Riverside Park Marina located at 1000 River Road in the City of North Tonawanda. Appropriate sediment and erosion controls, such as turbidity curtains, will be used to isolate the work area and maintain the water quality of the Niagara River. The dredged material will be temporarily placed on the peninsulas between Slips 1 and 2 and between Slips 2 and 3 for dewatering. Once the sediment is dewatered, it will be disposed of at an approved landfill site. Sediment sampling will be conducted prior to dredging.

The Department has made a tentative determination to approve this application. As a tentative determination, the Department is seeking public comment prior to making a final decision on permit issuance.
