Negative Declaration

Niagara County - The New York Power Authority (NYPA), as lead agency, has determined that the proposed Maid of the Mist Mooring and Winter Storage Facility will not have a significant adverse environmental impact. The action involves the consent of NYPA to the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation's (State Parks) request to allow the Maid of the Mist Corp. to perform capital construction on NYPA property, which is maintained and operated by State Parks. Approximately 2 acres of land will be developed within the total 6 acre construction area, including a winter dry dock facility, an approximately 3,500 square foot maintenance building, and a seasonal floating dock.

The proposed location is at the base of the Niagara Gorge over and adjacent to the former Schoellkopf Power Station No. 3 (Schoellkopf 3) in Niagara Falls, New York. For orientation, the project would be located along the east bank of the Niagara River, below the Niagara Gorge Discovery Center, 1,600 feet downriver from the Rainbow Bridge, in the City of Niagara Falls, New York.

Contact: John M. Kahabka, NYPA, 123 Main Street, White Plains, NY 10601, Phone: (914) 681-6308, E-mail: john.kahabka@nypa.gov.
