The Hemlock Canadice Unit Management Plan is a ten year plan for the multiple use of the 6,684 acre Hemlock-Canadice State Forest, and will be consistent with the Strategic Plan for State Forest Management. (Hemlock Park, the water treatment facilities and parking field for the fairgrounds are not part of the Hemlock Canadice State Forest, and are not included in this UMP.) The plan has general information on the unit's history and geology, an inventory of the unit's resources, such as mineral resources, vegetative types and stages, fish, wildlife and habitat and a summary of identified issues, such as access, vegetative management and oil and gas leasing. It also describes the proposed goals and objectives and policy constraints in managing the unit
This plan directs the future management of the property which will include such activities as maintenance and improvement of access to the site, managing natural vegetation, including native grasslands and woodlands, controlling exotic species, preservation of historical and archaeological resources, and recreational facilities such as the four boat launches. Benefits such as good water quality, a diverse and healthy wildlife population, and recreational enjoyment are ensured by selectively varying the types and growth stages of tree stands within this unit, maintaining and creating grasslands, and enhancing wetland areas. It also describes the proposed goals and objectives along with policy considerations for managing the unit.
The UMP is located in the Livingston County towns of Livonia, Conesus and Springwater, New York and the Ontario County towns of Richmond and Canadice, New York.
