Article 17 Titles 7 & 8 Municipal SPDES - Groundwater Discharge

Project is Located:

Smithtown, Suffolk County

Project Description:

The Department has prepared a draft permit and made a tentative determination to approve the applicant's request to modify the permit for Suffolk County Sewer District (SCSD) #18S (Hauppauge Industrial STP) to authorize a reconstruction of the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) and an expansion of the sewer district. The service area for SCSD # 18S will be expanded from 515 to 1,289 acres, and the STP will be redesigned for a capacity of 1.65 mgd to accommodate both the sanitary and compatible and/or pretreated industrial waste from the existing two plants and adjacent industrial park areas that will form the new sewer district boundaries. The new 1.65 mgd plant will use a Sequential Batch Reactor (SBR) system to treat wastewater, and the effluent which will ultimately be discharged to groundwater via 4 recharge beds.
