Wayne County - The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC), as lead agency, has determined that the proposed Vanderbilt Marsh Wetland Restoration will not have a significant adverse environmental impact. The action involves approximately 35,000 cubic yards of excavation within NYS Freshwater Wetland SA-21 for the restoration and enhancement of existing emergent marsh, open water channels and potholes on 638 acres of Vanderbilt Marsh Club property that has become dominated by stands of monotypic cattail. Turbidity curtain will be installed prior to excavating channels and potholes to contain suspended sediment. All excavated material will be reused on-site to create micro-typography, then seeded and mulched to create habitat diversity. The project is located on Lockpit Road in the Town of Savannah, New York.
