Notice of Acceptance of Draft EIS and Public Hearing

Livingston County - The New York State Department of Transportation (NYS DOT), as lead agency, has accepted a Draft Environmental Impact Statement on the proposed Portageville Bridge Project. A public hearing on the Draft EIS will be held on January 10, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. at the Genesee River Restaurant and Reception Center, 134 North Main Street, Mount Morris, NY 14510. Written comments on the Draft EIS will be accepted until February 1, 2013. The action involves the construction of a new railroad bridge over the Genesee River by the Project Sponsor, Norfolk Southern Railway Company. The project site is located within Letchworth State Park. The Draft EIS presents alternatives which consider the retention or removal of the existing Portageville Bridge and evaluates the project's impacts to historic and cultural resources, parkland, endangered and threatened species, wetlands, scenic rivers, noise, visual resources and other environmental and economic factors. The project is located on the Norfolk Southern Railway Company's Southern Tier Main Line at milepost 361.66, within Letchworth State Park in the Town of Portage and Town of Genesee Genesee Falls, New York.
