Positive Declaration and Public Scoping (Correction)
New York County (Manhattan) - The New York City Office of the Deputy Mayor for Economic Development, as lead agency, has determined that the proposed Phased Redevelopment of Governors Island, North Island Retenanting may have a significant adverse impact on the environment and a Draft Environmental Impact Statement must be prepared. Written comments on the draft scope will be accepted until January 18, 2013. A public scoping session will be held on January 8, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. at the NYC DEP's Spector Hall, 22 Reade Street, New York, New York, 10007. The Scoping document is available on line at: www.nyc.gov/oec.
The action involves a proposal by Governors Island Corporation, doing business as The Trust for Governors Island, for discretionary approvals that would support and allow for the retenanting of approximately 1.2 million square feet of the North Island's existing historic structures with a mix of uses. The action proposes to create a Special Governors Island District, a new zoning district on the Governors Island's North Island, which would generally allow commercial uses compatible with the use of the Island as a recreational, cultural, and educational resource, in the existing R3-2 district. The Island is anticipated to be retenanted with a mix of uses to include university space, student dormitory space, hotel use, movie theater use, office space, accessory retail and restaurant uses, cultural uses, artist studios, and a public school. The project is located on Governors Island in the Borough of Manhattan, New York.
