Negative Declaration

New York County (Manhattan) - The New York City School Construction Authority (NYC SCA), as lead agency, has determined that the proposed P.S. 343, Manhattan will not have a significant adverse environmental impact. The action involves a proposal on behalf of the New York City Department of Education (NYC DOE) by the New York City School Construction Authority (SCA) for the acceptance of construction funding and construction of a new, approximately 712 seat primary school facility in Community School District 2. Development of the proposed school facility would be conducted pursuant to NYC DOE's Five-Year Capital Plan for Fiscal Years 2010-2014.

Under the proposed project, the NYC SCA would renovate and expand the existing on-site structure into a new, approximately 712 seat primary school facility that would contain a total of approximately 94,000 gross square feet within a seven-story building. It would consist of general education classrooms, science laboratories, administrative and support space, a medical suite, a library, a cafeteria and kitchen facilities, a combined gymnasium and assembly space, an exercise room, rooftop playground, custodial facilities, and storage areas. Construction activities would begin in 2013, with student occupancy of the facility expected to begin in 2015.
