Montgomery County - The New York State Department of Transportation (NYS DOT), as lead agency, has determined that the proposed Bridge Repair Project: Route 5S over Schoharie Creek BIN 5523610, Bike Path over Schoharie Creek BIN 1002940, Route 5S over Pitcher Street BIN 1051442 and Route 80 over Erie Canal BIN 4030970 will not have a significant adverse environmental impact. The action involves a proposal by NYS DOT to rehabilitate Route 5S over Pitcher Street (BIN 1051442) Route 5S over Schoharie Creek (BIN 5523610), Bike Path over Schoharie Creek (BIN 1002940), and Route 80 over Erie Canal (BIN 4030970) by restoring the bridge joint system, bearings and repairing girder, substructure concrete and structural steel and gusset plate replacement. These structures are in need of repair to extend their serviceable lives. The highway and bike path bridge structures at Route 5S over Schoharie Creek (BINs 1002940 and 5523610) are eligible for the National Register. Historic Bridge Inventory, forms have been completed on these two structures. The proposed maintenance activity will not impair the historic integrity of the bridges. Concurrence from the State Historic Preservation Office was received on March 12, 2012 and the Federal Highway Administration on April 6, 2012 for the proposed work. Vehicular traffic on Route 5S over Pitcher Street will utilize the Culver Avenue and Dyke Road exits to reach their destinations during construction activities. The proposed traffic control plan on Route 5S over Schoharie Creek will have alternating one way traffic controlled by a signal and the bike path traffic will remain operational during the proposed repairs. There will be an off site detour during the proposed work activities on Route 80 over the Erie Canal. The project is located in the Towns of Glen, Florida, Minden, and Palatine in Montgomery County and the City of Utica in Oneida County, New York.
