The ADS will use microorganisms in the absence of oxygen to recycle energy from organic waste. The facility will use an internal combustion engine to convert biogas to electricity for sale to the open market. An Air State Facility permit application is also under review for this project for the emissions from the internal combustion engine, the backup flare, a biofilter and a boiler. Digested materials may be land applied on approved agricultural fields as a soil amendment. A separate permit application will be required to approve fields which may have digested materials applied to them. The Department has made a tentative determination to approve the Solid Waste Management and Air State Facility permit applications for the anaerobic digester facility and is seeking comments on the proposed regulated activity prior to making a final decision on permit issuance.
