Notice of Acceptance of Draft EIS and Public Hearing

Suffolk County - The Smithtown Town Board, as lead agency, has accepted a Draft Environmental Impact Statement on the proposed Society of St. Johnland Zone Change #2007-04. A public hearing on the Draft EIS will be held on November 29, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at the Smithtown Senior Citizens Center, Middle Country Road, Smithtown, NY. Written comments on the Draft EIS will be accepted by the contact person listed below until 5:00 p.m. December 10, 2012. The Draft EIS is available from the contact person listed below.

The action involves the petition for a change of zone from R-43 to RC for the purpose of the future construction of a Continuing Care Retirement Community of up to 199 age restricted residential units consisting of a combination of independent living units, assisted living units and townhouse units, with other miscellaneous facilities. The project is proposed for a vacant 50 acre parcel of land containing New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC) mapped freshwater wetlands and partially within the New York State Nissequogue River Wild, Scenic and Recreational Rivers System Corridors.

The project is located southwest of the corner of Sunken Meadow Road and Old Dock Road in Kings Park, Town of of Smithtown, New York.
