The applicant proposes to hydraulically dredge the navigation channels in five adjacent creeks tributary to Narrow Bay in the Town of Brookhaven. An approximate grand total of approximately 53,800 cubic yards of material will be removed from the channels of Unchachogue Creek, Johns Neck Creek, Sheep Pen Creek, Pattersquash Creek and the Mastic Beach Yacht Club Canal and pumped for dewatering to an upland diked area to be constructed near the shoreline in Smith Point Marina County Park. After dewatering, the material will be trucked to the Town of Brookhaven Landfill for final disposal.

Project Description:

The applicant proposes to refurbish and expand the existing 36 slip marina to 56 slips and provide an adequate depth for navigation by dredging a 27,132 square foot area to a depth of 6 feet below mean low water with resultant 1,586 cubic yards of material to be temporarily stored on the marina parking lot and dewatered prior to being trucked to an approved upland location. The sediment to be dredged and the sediment that will become exposed due to the dredging have been sampled for contaminants and the results submitted to DEC for review. Three existing wave breaks, one 6 foot by 165 foot floating dock and one 6 foot by 140 foot floating dock will be removed. Install two new 8 foot by 185 foot floating docks and one new 8 foot by 150 foot floating dock having 3 foot wide finger floats ranging in length from 28 to 36 feet. Install an 8 foot by 67 foot float to access one of the main floats and a new sewage pumpout station. The project is located on the west side of Woodbine Avenue across from 5th Avenue, Northport, Huntington Town, Suffolk County.

The applicant proposes to construct a paved recreational path approximately 4,250' long and 8' wide.
