The Department has prepared a draft permit and made a tentative determination to approve the applicant's proposal to modify the State Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (SPDES) permit to include an additional containment area for a new transformer (outfall 23). The draft permit includes effluent limits for outfall 23, and a copy can be obtained by contacting the person listed below.
The Caithness Long Island Energy Center is a nominal 346 megawatt (MW), dual fuel, combined-cycle electric generating station consisting of one Siemens Westinghouse Power Corporation 501F combustion turbine generator (CTG), a heat recovery steam generator equipped with natural gas-fired duct burners, and a single steam turbine.

New information recently submitted to the Department indicates the permit should be modified to include, a new limit for flow, sampling for Diethylethanolamine, the discontinuance of sampling for total suspended solids, and a comprehensive change in sampling frequency.
