ENB - Region 6 Notices 8/1/2012

Negative Declaration

Herkimer County - The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC), as lead agency, has determined that the proposed Permit Application and Mined Land Use Plan submitted by Hanson Aggregates New York, LLC will not have a significant adverse environmental impact. The action involves a proposal by the applicant, Hanson Aggregates New York, LLC, to expand the mining operation by adding 46.9 acres to the current surface consolidated limestone quarry. The existing quarry is on the permittee's property and the expansion area is located on the Manning Family's property. The mine is intended to operate as a traditional surface mine, extraction of limestone. Mining is not proposed for below the local water table. Excavation will be done by blasting, mechanical equipment, typical of limestone quarry mining operations. Reclamation will restore the site to a 46.9 acre meadow suitable for open space. Reclamation will include the replacement of stockpiled topsoil, and re-seeding with an approved USDA SCS seed mixture. The reviewed life-of-mine area is 46.9 acres of the 232.4 (LOM) acres. The project is located on Kingdom Road in the Town of Warren, New York, approximately one mile north of the hamlet of Jordanville.
