Permit(s) Applied for:

Article 15 Title 5 Excavation & Fill in Navigable Waters
Article 25 Tidal Wetlands
Section 401 - Clean Water Act Water Quality Certification

Project is Located:

Brookhaven, Suffolk County

Project Description:

The applicant proposes drainage/road end improvements as well as a public fishing pier at the terminus of Adelaide Avenue at Tuthill Cove. An existing non-functional bulkhead at the road end will be cut to grade and the roadway will be cut back by 83 feet. Approximately 2,800 square feet of impervious pavement will be removed and 115 cubic yards of soil will be excavated. The depression that is created will be planted with low marsh vegetation. Two catch basins connected to eight leaching galleys are proposed to be installed in the roadway further landward. The improvements are intended to reduce the amount of stormwater runoff and treat the runoff to improve water quality. The applicant also proposes to construct an eight foot wide ADA-accessible fishing pier. There may be some disturbance/loss of existing vegetated tidal wetlands located immediately adjacent to the road during construction. Additional high marsh vegetation will be planted on each side of the road. The project is located at Adelaide Avenue, Brookhaven, Town of Brookhaven, Suffolk County.
