Project Description:

Applicant is proposing to construct and operate a Regulated Medical Waste (RMW) Treatment Facility consisting of a single story, metal fabricated building on a 2 acre lot. The proposed facility will treat RMW delivered to the site via the use of two (2) autoclave units. Autoclave units use steam and high pressure in order to sterilize material. All residual by-product material will be disposed of at an off-site approved facility. Proposed design capacity of the facility is 60 tons per day or 1,860 tons per month.

State Environmental Quality Review (SEQR) Determination:

Project is an Unlisted Action and will not have a significant impact on the environment. A Negative Declaration is on file. A coordinated review was performed.

State Historic Preservation Act (SHPA) Determination:

Cultural resource lists and map have been checked. No registered, eligible or inventoried archaeological sites or historic structures were identified at the project location. No further review in accordance with SHPA is required.

Coastal Management:

This project is not located in a Coastal Management area and is not subject to the Waterfront Revitalization and Coastal Resources Act.

Project Description:

The Lake Kitchawan Conservation Committee proposes the treatment of up to four acres of the 97-acre Lake Kitchawan, with the aquatic pesticide Aquapro (active ingredient glyphosate), to control the growth of floating leafed aquatic plants. Of the proposed four acre treatment area, 1.9 acres are located within NYS Freshwater Wetland D-4 (Class II), and the purpose of the proposed treatment is to create boating lanes to facilitate recreational accessibility to the lake for shoreline property owners. It is also proposed to follow up the aquatic pesticide treatment with the removal of the treated root structures and floating islands with a hydro-rake. Raked material will be dewatered outside of the NYS freshwater wetland and its 100 foot adjacent area, prior to disposal at an appropriate upland location.
