Notice of Acceptance of Draft EIS and Public Hearing
Erie County - The City of Buffalo, as lead agency, has accepted a Draft Environmental Impact Statement on the proposed Women and Children's Hospital of Buffalo. A public hearing on the Draft EIS will be held on February 28, 2012 at 8:30 a.m. at the City of Buffalo City Hall, 1901 City Hall, Buffalo, NY. Written comments on the Draft EIS will be accepted until March 23, 2012. The Draft EIS is available from the contact listed below.
The action involves the construction of a new facility for the Women and Children's Hospital of Buffalo (WCHOB), which will be up to 400,000 square feet in a 10 story building. The WCHOB will be a modern, multi-dimensional medical hospital focused on the care of children and women. The WCHOB would include an Emergency Department, Trauma Center with Helipad, inpatient hospital beds, ancillary inpatient and diagnostic services, family lodging and ambulatory services.
The Hospital building will be between 350,000 and 400,000 square feet, sited on the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus (BNMC), adjacent to Buffalo General Hospital (BGH). The WCHOB will continue to be operated by Kaleida and will serve as a replacement for the existing Women and Children's Hospital of Buffalo located at 219 Bryant Street, Buffalo, NY 14222. The existing facilities are land-locked and in need of capital upgrades. The project is located at 830 Ellicott Street between Goodrich Street and High Street in the City of Buffalo, New York.
