ENB - Region 5 Notices 1/18/2012

Public Notice

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC) - Region 5 proposes to re-issue, with minor modifications, the region wide General Permit (GP) for use by the counties and municipalities for a group of common activities pertaining to the upgrading and maintenance of transportation and other public infrastructure which are regulated under the jurisdiction of Article 15 Protection of Waters and Article 24 Freshwater Wetlands. The purpose of this GP approach is to continue to improve the resource / infrastructure interface by including strict criteria, in a standardized permit, for the placement and/or restoration, maintenance, replacement, substantial reconstruction, modification or expansion of existing functional structures or facilities. During the past 5 years, NYS DEC - Region 5 counties and municipalities have undertaken more than 450 activities authorized under the GP, minimizing their permit transaction time, project costs, and scheduling issues. This approach is part of a larger effort to enable NYS DEC staff to focus on large, complex, environmentally significant projects that require more substantive review, oversight and enforcement. The Municipal General Permit is available for public review and comment on the NYS DEC - Region 5 website at http://www.dec.ny.gov/permits/42623.html. Comments must be submitted in writing to the contact person no later than Feb. 3, 2012.

For additional information with regard to the proposed General Permit, please contact: Marc Migliore, NYS DEC - Region 5 Warrensburg Sub Office, 232 Golf Course Road, Warrensburg, NY 12885, Phone: (518) 623-1285, E-mail: dep.r5@dec.ny.gov.
