ENB - Region 1 Notices 11/2/2011
Nassau County - The North Hempstead Town Board, as lead agency, has determined that the proposed Expansion of Ballfields-North Hempstead Beach Park will not have a significant adverse environmental impact. The action involves the renovation of an existing 60 acre, active recreational park to be conducted in two phases. Phase one involves the demolition and removal of an existing multi-purpose natural turf athletic field, field equipment, concrete pads, asphalt walkways, an existing pavilion structure, trees, and associated utility infrastructure. Two new youth baseball fields, concrete pads, fencing, irrigation, and drainage will be constructed.
Phase two includes the demolition and removal of a portion of the existing asphalt parking field, concrete sidewalks, concrete curbs, trees, site lighting and re-alignment of the existing exit roadway. The project includes the construction of one synthetic turf baseball field, one tee-ball field with a synthetic turf infield surface and natural turf outfield surface, concrete walkways, and walkway lighting. Existing utilities will be realigned to accommodate new site features. A portion of the existing parking field just north of the new turf field will be reconstructed with new lighting, and concrete walkways. The exit access road for the park will be realigned to accommodate the configuration of the new synthetic turf baseball field.
Both phases will include the installation and connection to a drainage system to allow on-site recharge.
The project is located at 175 West Shore Road in Port Washington, Town of North Hempstead, New York.
