Project is Located:

Orangeville, Wyoming County

Project Description:

A proposed wind-powered electric generating facility in the Town of Orangeville, Wyoming County, New York. The project will involve up to 59 wind turbine generators (WTG) manufactured by General Electric, model 1.6-100. The project area will encompass 14,500 acres. Each WTG has a rotor diameter of 328 feet and a hub height of 262.5 feet with a tip height of 427 feet. In addition to the turbines, the project build-out will consist of the following:

Construction of roughly 30 miles of 34.5 kV electrical collection system (ECS) consisting of buried cables that will connect all WTG and deliver electricity to an electric substation.

Construction of approximately 14 miles of access roads to allow vehicles to access the WTG during project construction and operation.

Construction of a new electric substation and a 262 feet tall permanent meteorological tower.

Construction of an Operation and Maintenance facility for project offices, garages, workspace and storage area for parts, tools, and materials.

A temporary construction staging area that will be used for construction trailers, parking, and temporary storage of equipment and material.

The proposed limit of disturbed acreage associated with the installation and operation of each WTG including roads, WTG pads, crane pads, ECS, staging areas, and electrical substation is approximately 296 acres, the majority of which will be restored.

The proposed project will involve permanent impact to 0.076 acre and temporary impact of 0.198 acre of wetland and 3.718 acre of wetland forest buffer and 2.445 acre of wetland non-forest buffer. The project will involve 100 ft of permanent impact to class A stream and 101 ft of temporary impact. These impacts are to tributaries of the Tonawanda Creek.
