ENB - Region 1 Notices 7/13/2011

Negative Declaration

Suffolk County - The Incorporated Village of Northport, as lead agency, has determined that the proposed Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP) Upgrades, Shoreline Sewer, and Collection System Improvements will not have a significant adverse environmental impact. The action involves three project elements WWTP upgrades; replacement of a shoreline sewer and pump station; and general collection system improvements and repairs. The goal of the WWTP upgrades is to reduce the amount of nitrogen discharged to Northport Harbor and ultimately to Long Island Sound. The upgrades will include the installation of denitrification filters to reduce the nitrogen in and improve the quality of plant effluent, dissolved oxygen and pH control systems to improve biological treatment efficiency and effectiveness, and an influent screening system to increase plant efficiency and protect the longevity of downstream equipment. The shoreline sewer and pump station replacement, and collection system improvements, will replace existing collection system components that have reached the end of their service lives, and improve treatment plant efficiency by reducing inflow and infiltration. The project is located at 1 Ketchum Place/Beach Avenue in the Incorporated Village of Northport, New York.
