Project Description:
The site, located on the north side of Macadam Road, approximately 1 mile east of St Rt 22, is currently a permitted 41 acre surface, unconsolidated sand and gravel mine which includes onsite processing of material. The applicant proposes a modification; to convert 3.86 acres to a surface consolidated rock quarry, which will include blasting and crushing. The operation will generate three blasts per week for the first month, then one to two blasts per month during the construction season. Pre-blast inspections will be performed on all structures within 3/4 mile of the blast area and all blasting will be monitored and performed in accordance with federal, state, and municipal codes, laws, rules and regulations. The quarry floor will be maintained at least five feet above the seasonal high groundwater table. Upon completion of mining, the quarry area will be allowed to flood, with surface water as the source, and will be converted to a 3.5 acre pond with varying levels of islands.

Project Description:
The Village of Saranac Lake proposes to take a new source of ground water by the installation of two wells with capacities of 3,000 gpm each, to replace the Village's existing surface water supply. Total approved daily taking is limited to 1.5 mgd (1,042 gpm). The project includes construction of a new well head control building with chlorine disinfection, pump controls and metering; a new water storage tank at Mount Pisgah; new water transmission mains from the wells to the new storage tank and to the existing water distribution system; and various upgrades to the existing distribution system. The project includes a waterline crossing of the Saranac River near the treatment plant via trench or directional drill method. The wells and the control building will be located on the Village's Wastewater Treatment Plant property. WSA#11,476. The project is also under review by Adirondack Park Agency #P2011-74.

The Department has made a tentative determination to approve a new SPDES permit for the proposed discharge of up to 12,000 gallons per day of sanitary wastewater to a class C(T) tributary of the Hudson River, associated with development of Ski Bowl Village at Gore Mountain, Phase 1-A Residential.
