Notice of Acceptance of Final EIS

Columbia County - The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC), as lead agency, has accepted a Final Environmental Impact Statement on the proposed A. Colarusso & Son, Inc. Quarry Expansion. The Fianl EIS is available from the contact person listed below and on line at: http://www.acolarusso.com/.

The action involves the expansion of an existing permitted 77 acre limestone quarry on Beacraft Mountain by an additional 163 acres (which includes 129 acres of excavation area and 34 acres of support area). The revised Life of Mine will be 240 acres. The 163 acre expansion area is located south of the existing quarry on land owned by the City of Hudson formerly owned by Lone Star Cement Company. NOTE: A Notice of Completion of DEIS was issued for this action on January 23, 2007 and Legislative Public Hearing was held on February 28, 2007. The project is located on the east side of Newman Road, approximately ½ mile south of NYS Route 23H in the Town of Greenport, New York.
