ENB Region 2 Notices 5/11/2011
New York County (Manhattan) - The Empire State Development, as lead agency, has determined that the proposed New York University Langone Medical Center Neuroscience Institute will not have a significant adverse environmental impact. The action involves construction of the Neuroscience Institute on the southeast corner of the superblock bounded by the former East 30th and East 34th Streets, between the FDR Drive Service Road and First Avenue. Construction at this location requires demolition of existing structures on the site, including Rubin Hall Dormitory, administrative office space, and a portion of Schwartz Hall. The building is expected to provide 252,000 square feet of zoning floor area (340,000 gross square feet). The Neuroscience Institute will support translational science dedicated to understanding the mechanisms of brain function and disease and the impact of genetics and environment on brain health. The program for the Science Building is to focus on biomedical research, and the new building would house the I-Cubed Institute (Infectious Medicine, Immunology and Inflammation) as well as the Neuroscience Institute. In addition to research facilities, the building is also expected to house administrative offices for the School of Medicine, seminar and conference space, and a vivarium. The project is located at 401 East 30th Street at the FDR Drive in Manhattan, NY.
