Kings County (Brooklyn) - The New York City Deputy Mayor's Office of Economic Development, as lead agency, has determined that the proposed 210 Joralemon will not have a significant adverse environmental impact. The action involves the redevelopment of approximately 53,000 square feet of office space and cellar on the northwest side of the Brooklyn Municipal Building. The western portion of the 13 story building houses the New York City Department of Finance Business Center and the New York City Department of Finance Property Assessment Division on the ground and second floors, with an area totaling 33,000 square feet. Both Finance Departments have plans to relocate their office spaces, leaving this area vacant and offering a rare opportunity to develop a new commercial project in a vibrant section of Brooklyn. Therefore, once this space is vacated New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYC EDC), on behalf of the City of New York, would seek proposals from qualified developers and/or commercial businesses to purchase or lease and redevelop this portion of the building. This 33,000 square feet of space would be converted from vacant office space to a commercial use most likely retail. The project may also include the disposition and reuse of 20,000 square feet of below-grade cellar space in a location and quantity that is subject to approval of the New York City Department of Citywide Administrative Services (NYC DCAS). The cellar space may be used only for mechanical equipment and loading, or possibly for storage, which would be based on the needs of the designated developer. The project is located at 210 Joralemon Street in Brooklyn, New York and situated at the intersection of the Brooklyn Heights and Downtown Brooklyn neighborhoods. It is bounded by Court Street to the west, Joralemon Street to the north, Brooklyn Law School to the east and office towers to the south.
