Project Description:

Modification of a regulated medical waste transfer (RMW) station located at 209 Latimer Avenue, Staten Island to increase the size of the facility and incorporate into its operations the storage and transfer of conditionally exempt small quantity hazardous waste (CESQW). The applicant, Solid Waste Technologies proposes to expand the existing facility building and operations from 3,080 square feet to 16,829 square feet by adding the buildings located at 33, 33A, 33B and 33C Baron Boulevard into the facility design. The applicant proposes to modify operations to manage up to 17 tons per day of waste, a combination of both regulated medical waste and hazardous waste, as well as 80 gallons per month of spent xray fixer received from generators at local hospitals, medical offices, dentist offices and laboratories within a 75 mile radius of New York City.

The RMW and the CESQW will be collected by truck, stored for consolidation and removal by a licensed hazardous waste transporter. There will be no increase in truck trips associated with operation of the facility as a result of the proposed action. The applicant proposes to operate Monday through Fridays 6 AM to 11 PM.

The proposed activity is not subject to review in accordance with SHPA. The permit type is exempt or the activity is being reviewed in accordance with federal historic preservation regulations.

This project is not located in a Coastal Management area and is not subject to the Waterfront Revitalization and Coastal Resources Act.
