Project Description:

Applicant proposes to mine shale from an existing, unpermitted 2 acre quarry located in an agricultural field on the west side of County Route 36 in the Town of Guilford. Over the anticipated five year life of mine, and total of five acres is proposed for mining. There is no proposed on-site mineral processing. Because the property is located within an agricultural district, the action is a Type I action in accordance with the State Environmental Quality Review Act.

State Environmental Quality Review (SEQR) Determination:

Project is a Type I action and will not have a significant effect on the environment. A coordinated review with other agencies was performed and a Negative Declaration is on file.

State Historic Preservation Act (SHPA) Determination:

Cultural resource lists and map have been checked. No registered, eligible or inventoried archaeological sites or historic structures were identified at the project location. No further review in accordance with SHPA is required.

This project is not located in a Coastal Management area and is not subject to the Waterfront Revitalization and Coastal Resources Act.

Project Description:

Northern Aggregates, Inc. proposes a new 8.1 acre sand and gravel mine on a 40 acre parcel of land owned by Frank and Trisha Harris at 71 Summerville Road in the Town of Hannibal. A temporary access roadway through state wetland HA-51 would be constructed, but no mining would occur within the wetland or its protected 100 foot adjacent area. The mine would be reclaimed as a 3.8 acre pond surrounded by wildlife habitat for use by the landowners. The application, report and plans are available for review in the Syracuse Office by appointment with the contact lised below.

Project Description:

The applicant proposes a 9 foot by 17.5 foot addition to an existing 675 square foot (sf) camp located within the NYS Coastal Erosion Zone. Per applicable regulations, only a 25% or less expansion of an existing structure is allowable. Since the proposed expansion is 157.5 SF, which is less than 25% of the existing structure and the proposed additional is landward of the coastal area, DEC Region 7 has made a tentative determination to approve the application. The project plans and application are available for review in the Syracuse Office.
