The applicant, New York State Department of Transportation, proposes to reconstruct and reconfigure the interchange ramps at Exit 122 on NYS Route 17, Town of Wallkill, Orange County. The new interchange ramps will connect with the relocated sections of East Main Street and Crystal Run Road.
The bridge currently carrying Crystal Run Road over NYS Route 17 will be removed. Philipsburg Creek will be realigned, and the culvert carrying Phillipsburg Creek under the mainline of NYS Route 17 will be replaced with a new, four-sided, embedded culvert. The proposed project will result in a total of 728 linear feet of impact to Phillipsburg Creek.
The proposed project also includes the widening of both sides of NYS Route 17 Bridge over the Wallkill River (Class B) to accommodate the proposed new ramp and deceleration lanes, and the construction of a canoe launch. The proposed work will result in a total of 305 linear feet of impact to the bed and banks of the Wallkill River. A total of 3.7 acres of wetlands will be impacted by the proposed project, including 2.88 acres of jurisdictional Federal wetlands and 0.82 acres of non-jurisdictional, isolated wetlands.
