Project Description:

The Department has made a tentative determination to approve this application for a new SPDES permit for a subsurface discharge (Outfall 001) of 16,000 gallons per day (gpd) of treated sanitary wastewater in conjunction with the construction of the proposed Salem Hunt residential development. The project includes construction of 65 units within 24 separate buildings, a recreation building and outdoor pool, walking trails with pedestrian bridge, stormwater detention basins, new wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) and septic disposal system, and three (3) new wells proposed to supply 20,500 gpd of potable water to residents. The project will disturb approximately 0.46-acre of the 100 foot adjacent area of Freshwater Wetland L-32 (Class II) and less than 3 square feet of the wetland proper in order to construct the pedestrian bridge over Holly Stream (Class C) on the eastern portion of the 40-acre parcel. The WWTP will provide tertiary treatment via an activated sludge process which includes flow equalization, sludge treatment (anoxic chamber and two aerobic chambers), clarification, phosphorus removal, and rapid sand filtration. The proposed water supply system includes disinfection, storage and distribution systems. The project is located on the southeastern side of June Road, west of the terminus of Starlea Road in the NYC East-of-Hudson watershed. Draft SPDES and water supply permits are available for inspection and comment at the regional office.
