Project Description:

The applicant proposes a discharge of 40,000 gallons per day of treated wastewater to the Great South Bay from a water treatment system at the applicant's facility located at the Robert Moses Causeway bridge. The applicant plans to operate a highway construction operation, which includes removal of the concrete road bed on the bridge deck by hydro-milling.

The Department has made a tentative determination to issue a permit for a State Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit under Article 17 of the Environmental Conservation Law. This tentative determination indicates that the discharge regulated under this statute is considered to satisfy regulatory standards for permit issuance, based on information available to the Department at this time. As a tentative determination, the Department seeks comments on the proposed regulated activity prior to making a final decision on permit issuance. As such, this tentative determination does not signify departmental approval for, or endorsement of, the activity for which a permit is sought. The applicant has also requested a modification of the existing Tidal Wetlands permit issued for the overall bridge rehabilitation project.

This project is located in a Coastal Management area and is subject to the Waterfront Revitalization and Coastal Resources Act.

The applicant proposes a discharge of 32,000 gallons per day of laundry wastewater to groundwater from a Generation II Aquarelle Filtration System at the applicant's facility located at 3 Candlewood Rd., Brentwood NY Town of Islip, Suffolk County. The applicant plans to operate a laundromat.

The department has made a tentative determination to issue a permit for a State Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit under Article 17 of the Environmental Conservation Law. This tentative determination indicates that the discharge regulated under this statute is considered to satisfy regulatory standards for permit issuance, based on information available to the Department at this time.
