Release of the Draft Pharsalia Woods Unit Management Plan and Public Meeting
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC) will hold a public meeting on Wednesday, September 29, 2010, at 7:00 p.m. at DEC Rogers Environmental Education Center to accept comments on the draft Pharsalia Woods Unit Management Plan (UMP). The Rogers Center is accessible to people with disabilities and is located at 2721 State Highway 80, Sherburne, NY. The Rogers Center is approximately 1 mile west of the village of Sherburne on NYS Route 80. Those unable to attend the meeting may submit written comments to the contact person at the address above or via e-mail at: firstname.lastname@example.org. Copies of the draft plan are on reserve at the Guernsey Memorial Library in Norwich, the Sherburne Public Library and the NYS DEC - Region 7 Sherburne Sub Office at 2715 NYS Route 80 Sherburne, NY. The draft plan is also available online at the NYS DEC public website at: http://www.dec.ny.gov/education/1831.html. A limited number of print and digital (compact disc) copies of the plan are available and may be obtained by calling (607) 674-4017. Comments on the draft plan will be accepted until November 1, 2010. Public participation will assist in the development of the final plan. Public comments received will be considered in the final plan.
The Pharsalia Woods Unit consists of 13,622 acres of state land in western Chenango County. It includes New Michigan, Pitcher Springs, Perkins Pond and Pigeon Hill State Forests. The draft plan proposes management activities on the unit for the next 20 years and defines goals and objectives for biodiversity conservation, timber and natural gas production and public recreation.

Chenango County - The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC), as lead agency, has determined that the proposed Chenango Concrete Corporation - Bundy Pit # 2 with Law and Cook Lenses will not have a significant adverse environmental impact. The action involves a proposal for a 35 acre expansion of a 122 acre unconsolidated sand and gravel mine. The project is located 1.5 miles north of NYS Route 12 on the west side of County Route 23 in the Town of Norwich, New York.
