Project Description:

The applicant proposes to construct new stormwater and sanitary sewers. The proposed work includes improvements to the existing natural open water system in the area, including the dredging of Springfield Lake. Stormwater will be conveyed through natural systems where possible through a system of Best Management Practices (BMPs) and open water in Springfield and Idlewild Parks before discharging in Jamaica Bay. The project is located from the south side of South Conduit Avenue, south to 149th Avenue, west to Springfield in Springfield Gardens, including Springfield Park and Idlewild Park, Queens, New York .

The applicant proposes the construction of a new 7' x 5' storm sewer from the intersection of Beach 42nd Street and Beach Channel Drive with outfall to Norton Basin. To facilitate construction the applicant proposes to install and operate a temporary dewatering system with a maximum withdrawal of 994,000 gallons per day. Pumped groundwater will be directed to an existing 7' x 5' storm sewer parallel to the new sewer which discharges to Norton Basin via NYCDEP Outfall ROC-647.
