Notice of Acceptance of Final Generic EIS
Oswego County - The Oswego County Legislature, as lead agency, has accepted a Final Generic Environmental Impact Statement on the proposed Emergency Radio Communications System Upgrade. The action involves developing an Emergency Radio Communications System Upgrade for voice and data radio communications services to enable public safety and public service entities operating within Oswego County to better respond to and protect citizens by improving communications for homeland security, public safety, fire and EMS providers in the region. It will involve construction of several new communications towers and refurbishing of a number of existing towers. The project will provide essential connectivity to coordinate the delivery of governmental services to residents and to enable immediate coordination of public safety resources in emergency situations to ensure the public's safety and welfare. The project will not only allow Oswego County to change frequencies but also to upgrade its emergency radio system to a P-25 compliant, interoperable system with added capabilities at the same time. The proposed project is fundamentally an infrastructure, a collection of radio sites throughout Oswego County interconnected by a network. The radio sites and network design will have very high reliability and will provide for continuous communications even in the face of equipment failure, natural or manmade incidents. A hard copy of the Final GEIS is available at Oswego Public Library, 120 East 2nd Street, Oswego, NY. The online version of the Final GEIS is available at the following publically accessible web site: www.oswegocounty.com. The project is located throughout Oswego County.
