Project Description:

The applicant proposes an existing discharge of 1200 gallons per day of untreated wastewater to ground water from a non-contact cooling water system at the applicant's facility located at 2929 Expressway Drive North, Hauppauge, Town of Islip, Suffolk County. Changes in the effluent limitations for pH and sodium are proposed.

The Department has made a tentative determination to modify the State Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit under Article 17 of the Environmental Conservation Law. This tentative determination indicates that the discharge regulated under this statute is considered to satisfy regulatory standards for permit issuance, based on information available to the Department at this time. As a tentative determination, the Department seeks comments on the proposed regulated activity prior to making a final decision on permit issuance. As such, this tentative determination does not signify departmental approval for, or endorsement of, the activity for which a permit is sought or for the overall proposed project.

Refer to this application by application number listed above and SPDES number NY0175943. The discharge is located within an area designated as a sole source aquifer. The following water purveyor has been identified as having service areas located within a 3-mile radius of the applicant's facility: Suffolk County Water Authority.

The applicant proposes to construct and operate a laundromat at his facility located on Hewyard Street, 100' east of Jefferson Avenue in Brentwood, Town of Islip in Suffolk County, SCTM# 500-74-01-30.001. The proposed discharge is located within an area designated as a sole source aquifer. The following water purveyor has been identified as having service areas located within a 3-mile radius of the applicant's facility: Suffolk County Water Authority. This tentative determination indicates that the discharge regulated under this statute is considered to satisfy regulatory standards for permit issuance, based on information available to the Department at this time. As a tentative determination, the Department seeks comments on the proposed regulated activity prior to making a final decision on permit issuance. Cultural resource lists and map have been checked. No registered, eligible or inventoried archaeological sites or historic structures were identified at the project location. No further review in accordance with SHPA is required.

Coastal Management:

This project is not located in a Coastal Management area and is not subject to the Waterfront Revitalization and Coastal Resources Act.
