Project Description:

Riverhead Water District (RWD) is proposing to extend its boundaries to provide public water to the former Grumman-Navy property in Calverton. This area is approximately 2,900 acres, and includes all land located within the former Naval Weapons Industrial Reserve Plant except for a 42 acre parcel known as Island Water Park. The applicant estimates that total average daily water demand for the proposed extension area may be 789,000 gallons per day, with the peak demand estimated at 2.36 million gallons per day, when the lands of the former Grumman-Navy property in Calverton are fully developed.

State Environmental Quality Review (SEQR) Determination:

Project is a Type I action and will not have a significant effect on the environment. A coordinated review with other agencies was performed and a Negative Declaration is on file.

SEQR Lead Agency: NYS Department of Environmental Conservation

State Historic Preservation Act (SHPA) Determination:

A Structural-Archaeological Assessment Form has been completed. The proposed activity will not impact on registered, eligible or inventoried archaeological sites or historic structures.

Coastal Management:

This project is not located in a Coastal Management area and is not subject to the Waterfront Revitalization and Coastal Resources Act.

Opportunity for Public Comment:

Comments on this project must be submitted in writing to the Contact Person no later than Apr 30, 2010.

Project Description:

Applicant proposes the construction of one(1) new water supply well (No. 16) rated @ 1,380 GPM at the existing Edwards Ave well field. The well is proposed to supplement the current water supply capacity of the Riverhead Water District. The well field is located on Edwards Ave, Baiting Hollow, Town of Riverhead.

The proposed activity is not subject to review in accordance with SHPA. The permit type is exempt or the activity is being reviewed in accordance with federal historic preservation regulations.

Coastal Management:

This project is not located in a Coastal Management area and is not subject to the Waterfront Revitalization and Coastal Resources Act.
