Suffolk County - The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC), as lead agency, has determined that the proposed Riverhead Water District Extension No. 75B will not have a significant adverse environmental impact. The action involves a proposal by the Riverhead Water District (RWD) to extend its boundaries to provide public water to the former Grumman-Navy property in Calverton. This area is approximately 2,900 acres, and includes all land located within the former Naval Weapons Industrial Reserve Plant except for a 42 acre parcel known as Island Water Park. The applicant estimates that total average daily water demand for the proposed extension area may be 789,000 gallons per day, with the peak demand estimated at 2.36 million gallons per day, when the lands of the former Grumman-Navy property in Calverton are fully developed. The project is located at the Grumman-Navy Property in Calverton, Town of Riverhead, New York.
