Chenango County - The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DOT), as lead agency, has determined that the proposed Susquehanna River Gravel Bar Removal will not have a significant adverse environmental impact. The action involves the removal of a gravel bar in the Susquehanna River at the confluence of Newton Creek. The removal of the gravel bar will restore the alignment of the Susquehanna River and will reduce the river's angle of attack against the piers of the State Route 206 bridge, therefore reducing the potential for scour. The removal of the gravel bar will also reduce the bank scour along the County Route 39 side of the river. A temporary access road will be needed to get construction equipment to the gravel bar. The access road would involve the placement of a geotextile stabilization fabric and gravel on existing ground. The project is located in the Susquehanna River at the confluence of Newton Creek in the Village of Bainbridge, New York.
