ENB - Region 8 Notices 02/24/2010
Negative Declaration
Steuben County - The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC), as lead agency, has determined that the proposed Prescribed Burn on Cameron Meadows, Steuben Reforestation Areas #'s 4 and 18 and Helmer Creek Wildlife Management Area will not have a significant adverse environmental impact. The action involves early spring prescribed fires, designed to rejuvenate desirable grass species on approximately 76 acres. The action is in accordance with the recommendations in the Prescribed Fire Plan for Cameron State Forest, Cameron Mills State Forest and Helmer Creek Wildlife Management Area, in addition to the Canisteo River Basin Unit Management Plan approved by the Commissioner in June 2003. The plant community being burned is a fire climax community and requires frequent fire to survive and thrive. The project is located in the Steuben Reforestation Area #4, Stand H-940, Steuben Reforestation Area #18, Stand A-940 and Helmer Creek Wildlife Management Area, Stand A-1 in the Town of Cameron and the Town of Rathbone, New York.
