Project Description:

The applicant proposes to replace the Main Street single span bridge in the Village of Oxford with a bridge with a center pier. In order to complete the project, 2,494 cubic yards of temporary fill material will be placed. Upon completion of the project, the 2,494 cubic yards of material will be completely removed. Work below ordinary high water for abutments and the center pier will result in excavation of 1,606 cubic yards of material being excavated below ordinary high water. The abutment and pier work will require 1,236 cubic yards of fill, the net excavation is 370 cubic yards. The material to be excavated is existing streambed material; the fill material will be primarily heavy stone fill.

State Historic Preservation Act (SHPA) Determination:

A cultural resources survey has been completed. Based on information provided in the survey report, the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (OPRHP) has determined that the proposed activity will have an impact on registered or eligible archaeological sites or historic structures. The department must consult further with OPRHP before making a final decision regarding the issuance of the permit.

Coastal Management:

This project is not located in a Coastal Management area and is not subject to the Waterfront Revitalization and Coastal Resources Act.

Opportunity for Public Comment:

Project Description:

Install a 121-foot long x 12-foot wide timber, raised boardwalk through NYSDEC Freshwater Wetland TW-6 at Fuertes Bird Sanctuary to join existing suspension bridges over Fall Creek and adjacent Lagoon. Project also includes modifications to approaches and repairs to bridges and abutments for 3 existing pedestrian bridges located over Cascadilla Creek, Fall Creek, and the Lagoon. This work is part of a 2.0-mile asphalt, multi-use trail connecting the Ithaca Farmers' Market to the Tompkins County Visitors' Center.
